New York, NY – The Fund for Modern Courts congratulated the new Chief Judge of the State of New York, the Honorable Janet DiFiore, and offered to work with her to make the courts work optimally for all those who rely on the courts to resolve their many issues.
Barry A. Bohrer, Chair of the Fund for Modern Courts, said, “New York’s third branch of our state government once more has the leadership it deserves to meet its constitutional obligations, and provide justice for the people of the State of New York. Modern Courts looks forward to working with Chief Judge DiFiore. ”
Amelia T.R. Starr, Chair of Modern Courts’ Executive Committee, said, “The appointment of Chief Judge DiFiore is so important because the she not only sits as a member of the Court of Appeals, New York State’s highest court, but also is the chief judicial officer of the Unified Court System, and as such administers the court system. In addition, it is critical to have a Chief Judge in place to negotiate the judiciary budget.”
Founded in 1955, the Fund for Modern Courts is a nonpartisan, nonprofit, statewide organization dedicated to improving the courts in New York State through advocacy, public education and in-court programming.
