The “Justice Gap”

• It is generally accepted that having access to legal representation in civil legal matters would be the best way to protect an individual’s legal rights.
• In reality, many are unable to afford an attorney’s services.
• This is referred to as the “Justice Gap”.
• The Office for Justice Initiatives and the NYS Permanent Commission on Access to Justice were created to narrow the “justice gap” by developing innovative programs within the court system and ensuring sufficient resources for legal service providers.
