Scott Primiano, CCI Advocates, Inc. who volunteered at the Superstorm Sandy Disaster Relief Clinic of Touro Law School, Long Island, NY. Mr. Primiano is a flood insurance broker who volunteered his time to work with the greatest segment of unmet legal need in the recovery efforts, flood insurance claims, especially underpayments on those claims. The great majority seeking assistance were seniors and working families who were having difficulty with mortgage payment prior to the storm. Mr. Primiano assisted with claims as well as reviewed coverage as people looked toward the future. He also provided public education, and assisted in developing legal strategy which allowed Touro Law Center – Hurricane Emergency Assistance and Referral Team (TLC-HEART), to bring about systemic reform meant to benefit thousands of affected households in the state.

Housing Court Answers, formerly known as the City-Wide Task Force on Housing Court, it is the first place to go in New York City for information about Housing Court. Housing Court Answers help people without lawyers at information tables in the city’s Housing Courts, on its hotline and on its website. Housing Court Answers was founded in 1981 when a concerned group of advocates working at community based projects and legal services offices started two task forces to help tenants without lawyers in Bronx and Brooklyn housing court. Through the years, it’s works in the courthouses, as advocates and through comprehensive studies, has convinced the court system to make access for justice for pro se litigants a priority.
